This photo was taken while on my Uncles 50th birthday celebration trip in Kentucky to visit different whiskey distilleries along the Bourbon Trail.
For my Uncle's 50th birthday celebration he wanted to have a big group of friends and family join him on a trip to Kentucky. It was a weekend of good company, fun times, good food and good bourbon. The main highlight of the trip was a tour of about 5 different distilleries in the are, where we got tours of the facilities and did tastings at each one.
We started bright and early getting on the tour bus when the winter morning air was still crisp and the sun lit up the surroundings in a warm gold glow. I knew I had to prepare myself mentally for a long and tiring day filled with a lot of alcohol, but I also knew it would be a blast.
The day was definitely a lot of fun but as we got to the last distillery on the tour, Lux Row Distillers, where this photo was taken, everyone was pretty worn out from the long day. As we sat at the bar drinking our last sips of bourbon on the tour the sun started getting low in the sky, bathing our surroundings in the same warm golden light as that morning.
The bar was in a building with mostly glass walls allowing for the sun to shine in and be perfectly diffused by the time it hit the walls and create the really cool effect you see in the picture. This effect and the fact that it created such perfect shadows of the bottles including their color is what has always drawn me to this photo.
